Bethlehem Children’s Home, New Delhi

Mahima Shiksa Kendra

Having received a burden for helping some of the orphan children, Bethlehem Children’s Home was started in October 2002 and was formally inaugurated in March 2003. Since then, it has been home and family to children, who were on the streets without homes, children of prostitutes and slums; all of them, who were destitute and without hopes. Now there are 20 children, most of them came when they were very young and had no place to go. Now they have a beautiful home and family and all of them pursuing their studies in very good English Medium schools in Delhi, India. Initially the Orphanage was meant for girls, as girls are more prone to prejudice and atrocities. In poor and lower class families, they are considered to be a curse for the family. Now there are 9 boys, who did not have place to go. Most of the children who came in the first place, were in very poor health and were malnourished. Some of them had tuberculosis, whose parents had died of that disease. Now, they have a home and beautiful family. They are our sons and daughters, much loved and well cared for.

The children are taken care of in a homely environment.  They have found their parents in the persons of Daniel and Eunice Kumar who love them and care for them like their own children.  Along with food, cloth and shelter (considered as basic human needs), they also get quality education, proper medical care, recreation facility and lots of scopes to develop their personality and potential.
